After the NEC – Stitching, Friendship and Inspiration
It always takes a day or two to catch my breath after the NEC, doesn’t it? The Creative Craft Show is such a whirlwind — full of colour, laughter, and the hum of creativity everywhere you turn. For me, it’s not just about selling or demonstrating; it’s about being part of something bigger — a celebration of makers and doers who share a love of textiles, fabric, and a good chat about threads!
Reflecting on the NEC – A Wonderful Whirl of Creativity
This year’s show was just brilliant. I came home with tired feet, sore cheeks from smiling, and a head full of ideas. Meeting so many like-minded people — visitors, fellow traders, tutors, and the amazing organisers who hold it all together — is what makes these events so special. There’s always that lovely moment when a conversation about fabric turns into a friendship or when someone’s eyes light up at a new technique.
It’s a huge effort to prepare, load up the van, travel, and set up a stand, but the buzz of those few days makes it all worthwhile. Thank you to everyone who stopped by to talk, shared stories, joined in workshops, or simply admired the work — I truly appreciate each and every one of you.
A Little Note About the Inspiration Cards
One unexpected talking point at the show was my Inspiration Cards for Textile Artists. Quite a few people thought they were kits at first, which made for some lovely conversations! They’re actually creative prompts — ideas to spark your imagination and get you playing again, not something to follow step-by-step.
They’re about giving yourself permission to experiment — to see where the materials take you. And, as someone joked at the show, they might even make a perfect alternative to a Christmas card — a little bit of inspiration sent through the post to a creative friend.
Until Next Time
Now that I’m back in the studio, the unpacking and planning for the next event begins. But I’ll carry the energy of the NEC with me for a long time yet. It’s wonderful to be reminded how much creativity and kindness lives in this community — and how lucky I am to be part of it.
If you missed me at the show, do pop over to the Eau Brink Studio website or follow along on social media — there’s always something colourful happening here!
