Meet Anita O'Neill
Sewing has always been woven into the fabric of my life. My mother, a skilled tailor for the armed forces and private industry, spent her days altering garments, crafting wedding dresses, and creating beautiful home furnishings. While I never gravitated towards the structural aspects of sewing, I found joy in helping with embellishments whenever I could.
At 16, I received my first sewing machine, a cherished old Singer, which I used until I was 24 when I upgraded to a Janome. Today, I predominantly use a Pfaff, but I also treasure a lovely old Bernina that still sees regular use.
My journey into sewing truly began under the guidance of Christine Davey, who introduced me to various techniques through the WI and her own sewing groups. This eventually led me to pursue City and Guilds qualifications. After relocating to Kent, I completed my studies with the vibrant Ruth Issett, who encouraged me to explore a broader palette of colors than I ever had before.
With a City and Guilds qualification and a degree in hand, I now exhibit my work and continue to expand my skills through courses with other talented tutors, both at Eau Brink Studio and beyond.
In October 2013, I returned to Norfolk to establish my own studio, Eau Brink Studio, where I could teach mixed media textiles and invite other tutors to share their expertise with the local community. Since then, the studio has grown from strength to strength, offering a wide range of workshops that cater to all disciplines within the textile arts. We've also expanded to include art classes led by established artists.
Some of our regular workshops include Basic Embroidery, Experimental Wednesday, and Social Wednesday, along with special sessions led by renowned tutors like Amanda Hislop and Alison Hulme.
As a proud member of the West Norfolk Artists Association, I am now an exhibiting artist with work showcased at various local venues throughout the year. I'm also fortunate to participate in the Creative Craft Shows at the NEC and Farnborough, where I have the pleasure of teaching and demonstrating on my stand.
