November Newsletter: Exciting Times at Eau Brink Studio!

Hello, creative friends!

What a whirlwind it has been here at Eau Brink Studio! With plans for 2025 well underway, we’re excited to share that new workshops are being added to the website, so you can book your favorite sessions in advance. After a fabulous few days at the Creative Craft Show at the NEC, we're also focused on building our online workshop library, which will soon be available on our website. We'll kick things off with Embellished Erosions, but you might be wondering, What exactly is that? Let me explain!

Embellished Erosions: From Paper to Art

Some of you may know I’ve been working on a unique paper-based jacket inspired by techniques we explored during my City and Guilds days. We used to color papers with inks, markers, and paints, stitch them into grids, and then distress them by wetting and scrunching. Now, we can use paper napkins to create similar effects, enhancing the process with beautiful textures and patterns.

For this project, I stitch grids onto paper napkins—one direction with a decorative stitch, the other with a straight stitch—using the machine’s foot as a guide. Once distressed, they soften beautifully, becoming ideal for layering. Now, I’m attaching these napkins to organza, adding beaded embellishments for depth and detail. Originally, I planned to stitch these panels onto a calico base, but I’ve decided to weave the base of the jacket instead, creating a dynamic texture that peeks through where I’ll remove parts of the organza.

This jacket, which I’m calling Embellished Erosions, combines distressing techniques with stitch and beadwork. My goal is to complete it for submission in the Embroidery section of the Creative Craft competition!

Important Studio Update

Due to family illness, John and I are temporarily closing the studio and traveling to Kent this week. If you’ve booked a workshop during this time, you’ll receive a full refund within the next few days. Thank you for your understanding; we truly appreciate your support through this time.

Upcoming Workshops & Events

Assuming all is well for next week, we’ll be back with our Experimental Day on Thursday, 21st November. We’ll be working with soluble paper, rubbing plates, lutradur, markers, and inks. There are only three spots left, so be sure to book soon if you’d like to join us!

On November 28th, we’ll host Ruth’s Flower Books Workshop, a delightful day of hand-stitching with all materials provided. Whether you’re a seasoned stitcher or a complete beginner, it’s a perfect way to try your hand at something new.

If you're around on the weekend of 22nd November, pop by and say hello at our stand in Deeplale! You’ll be able to browse our work, chat about new techniques, and book workshops with me directly.

Heartfelt Thanks

John and I want to extend a sincere thank-you for your support and understanding. These past few weeks have been challenging, but knowing we have such a wonderful creative community cheering us on means the world.

Looking forward to seeing you soon!

Warm wishes,
Anita
