Rupture, Repair & The Joys of Moss: A Month of Making at the Studio
There’s something quite magical about the start of a new week, don’t you think? The kettle’s on, the thread’s flowing freely, and the studio hums with the promise of possibility. And as always, there’s lots happening here—some laughter from last week still echoing in the air, and some very exciting things just around the corner.
So, grab a cuppa, settle in, and let me tell you what’s been going on…
A Little Tear, A Little Mend – and a Whole Lot of Meaning
This Thursday we’re doing something special. It’s one of our Experimental Thursdays, and this time it’s called Rupture and Repair.
Now, I know what you're thinking. “Tearing up fabric and stitching it back together? That sounds simple enough!” But trust me—it’s not quite as straightforward as it sounds.
It’s a day of creative chaos and careful restoration, of exploring what happens when we allow things to fall apart—and how we choose to put them back together. Think raw edges, visible mends, and stories sewn right into the cloth. It’s tender, it’s bold, and yes, a little bit poetic.
Curious? You should be. Click here to find out more.
Midweek Mischief and Tea-Fuelled Stitching
Last Wednesday, the studio was alive with laughter during our Social Stitching day. We stitched, we chatted, we may have eaten a slightly inappropriate number of cakes—and it was absolutely brilliant.
There’s something so comforting about gathering midweek with a room full of kindred spirits, all of us just quietly creating, unpicking, and sharing snippets of our days. If you’ve not joined us for a social stitch before, you’re missing out on some truly lovely company (and possibly the best cake in Norfolk).
Stitching Saturdays Are Back!
Good news for weekend creatives—our Saturday sessions are back, and the next one is just around the corner on 31st May.
Whether you're working on something exciting, feeling a bit creatively stuck, or just need a break from the laundry basket, come and spend a day surrounded by fabric, thread, and friendly faces. No pressure. No perfection. Just a day of doing what you love.
Coming Soon: Bold Shapes with Ruth Holmes
Speaking of things to look forward to, we’re counting down to a very special guest workshop with Ruth Holmes on 29th May.
Ruth will be showing us how to play with bold, abstract shapes to create unique textile hangings. Her approach is joyful and full of energy—perfect for anyone who wants to loosen up and try something new. Whether you're a beginner or an old hand with a needle, you’ll leave with something beautiful and completely your own.
Expect colour. Expect texture. Expect to leave totally inspired.
A Mossy Little Bonus
Now, here’s something you probably didn’t expect in a studio newsletter: free moss.
Yes, really.
You see, we’ve been tidying up the car park (glamorous, I know), and in the process discovered we have a small moss empire growing out there. And with hanging basket season upon us, it seemed a shame to waste it!
So if you’d like some moss for your garden projects, you're more than welcome to help yourself. Or if you can’t make it down, just drop me a message and I’ll happily bag some up for you. Fresh, green, and gathered with love.
Final Call for Workshops!
Before I go, just a quick reminder that we’ve only got a handful of spaces left on some very special workshops:
-
Amanda Clayton – just 4 spaces left
Amanda’s workshops are like a gentle creative retreat. If you love subtle stitching, texture, and time to think and play, this is one not to miss. -
Batik & Print with Jenny O’Leary and Alison Hulme – only 3 spaces remaining
Colour, surface design, bold prints, and two wonderfully dynamic tutors. It’s going to be a buzzing, beautiful day of mark-making and magic. So that’s what’s happening in our little patch of the textile world. Whether you’re here for the stitching, the inspiration, or just some moss, there’s always a spot for you.
Come say hello, bring your scissors, and let’s make something lovely.
With warm threads and happy hearts,
Anita
