Join Amanda Clayton for a focused and thoughtful one-day workshop exploring hand embroidery techniques through the creation of a stitched sampler strip, using leaves as a simple but powerful design shape.
Throughout the day, you’ll learn or revisit a range of hand embroidery techniques — including inlay, cutwork, appliqué, layering, needle darning, and more — all of which are highly relevant to contemporary quilting and textile practice.
Working with neutral cloth and thread, you’ll build a stitched strip that allows you to explore surface qualities such as transparency, layering, and contrast. This pared-back approach encourages close attention to stitch, structure, and decision-making, often revealing possibilities that feel both new and exciting.
Using leaves as a repeating motif provides a gentle framework for developing ideas, while leaving plenty of room for personal interpretation. The skills and design approaches explored during the day are intended to be transferable — giving you the confidence to work in colour, at different scales, and within your own creative language when you return home.
This workshop is as much about observation and confidence-building as it is about technique, offering time to slow down, explore, and enjoy the process.
