On the Edge Workshop with Amanda Clayton
Explore how edges, seams and joins can become powerful elements within your textile work.
Led by Amanda Clayton at Eau Brink Studio in West Norfolk, this thoughtful, hands-on workshop focuses on working “on the edge” — using seams, borders and transitions as active parts of your design rather than something to hide. Through a series of guided exercises and stitched explorations, you’ll investigate how edges can create connection, contrast and expression within cloth.
Working slowly and intuitively, you’ll explore how fabric, stitch and structure interact, allowing your work to develop in response to the material and your own decisions as the piece evolves.
You’ll leave with a collection of stitched samples or a developed piece, along with new ways of approaching composition and construction in your textile work.
✂️ During the workshop you will:
• Explore edges as an active part of your design
• Work with seams, joins and transitions
• Experiment with layering and structure
• Develop observational and decision-making skills
• Create a series of stitched samples or a developed piece
This is a calm, reflective session with plenty of guidance, ideal for those wanting to explore cloth in a more considered and conceptual way.
Perfect for:
• Those interested in textile art and stitch
• Anyone wanting to explore new ideas
• Makers looking to deepen their practice
