(Amanda’s final year teaching at Eau Brink Studio)
Date: Friday 15 May
Time: 10am – 4pm
Location: Eau Brink Studio, West Norfolk
We’re delighted to welcome Amanda Clayton for what will be her final year teaching at Eau Brink Studio, with this thoughtful and deeply engaging workshop focused on piecing, patching, and working with cloth that carries history and meaning.
During the day, you’ll give scrap and reclaimed cloth a new lease of life, exploring both traditional piecing methods and more contemporary ways of joining small fragments together. You’re welcome to work with sentimental or vulnerable pieces of fabric, as well as newly chosen cloth, responding to their individual qualities as the work develops.
Layering and inlay will play an important role, with an emphasis on transparency, contrast, and surface interaction. Working largely within a pared-back, neutral palette, you’ll learn — or revisit — some of Amanda’s signature techniques, including flat seams, French seams, butting, flange joins, stitch rivets, and darning with overlays.
This workshop goes beyond technique alone. It’s about decision-making, observation, and responding intuitively to cloth, developing approaches you can transfer back into your own studio practice long after the day ends.
Expect a supportive, reflective atmosphere with space to experiment, refine ideas, and — just as importantly — enjoy the process.
Small packs of materials will be available to purchase from Amanda on the day, with a small additional charge for materials used.
Designed to be accessible and unrushed, this workshop is ideal for beginners while still offering plenty of scope for experienced stitchers.
