Bloom & Stitch with Ruth Holmes

Spend two creative days exploring textiles, colour, and stitch as you design and make your own Flowers in a Vase textile artwork.

Over the course of the weekend, you’ll work step by step to plan and develop your composition. You’ll begin by choosing the flowers for your vase, deciding on its shape, and considering how you’d like the background to sit within the finished piece. Ruth will guide you through the process, encouraging thoughtful decision-making and personal interpretation throughout.

Using free-machine embroidery, you’ll bring your flowers to life with thread, line, and movement. You’ll also paint your background and vase fabrics, before building up layers with additional fabrics, stitch, embellishment, and creative surface techniques to complete your artwork.

The two-day format allows time to explore ideas without rushing, letting your piece evolve naturally as skills and confidence grow.

By the end of the weekend, you’ll have a completed textile artwork ready to frame or display, along with techniques and approaches you can apply to future projects.

Please bring

Your sewing machine set up for free machining (or request the use of a studio machine in advance)

A basic sewing kit

A frame you think may suit your finished piece (optional, but helpful for sizing)

Any favourite threads you’d like to use (threads will also be available to purchase from Eau Brink Studio)

All other materials are provided.

Designed to be accessible and unrushed, this workshop is ideal for beginners while still offering plenty of scope for experienced stitchers.
