This course aims to unlock your potential and channel your creativity into beautiful, stitched designs.

Have you ever looked at a magazine cutting, a postcard from a memorable trip, or a photograph and wondered how you could translate the colors, shapes, and patterns you see into a work of textile art? Well, wonder no more! This course will empower you to do just that.

We will dive deep into the world of design, using your everyday sources of inspiration as our starting point. From exploring colors to dissecting shapes and patterns, we will teach you the fundamentals of design in a hands-on and engaging manner. By the end of this course, you'll not only have a heightened sense of creativity but also a sketchbook filled with ideas and stitched samples that are uniquely yours.

Whether you're a seasoned artist or just starting your creative journey, this course is designed to inspire and challenge you. So, let's pick up our sketchbooks, thread our needles, and get ready to explore the extraordinary in the ordinary.

Week 1 - Exploring Colours

Materials - Sketchbook, picture, paints, inks, dyes, pencils, any other materials to create your colour pallette. 

  • Introduction to the course and the importance of finding inspiration in everyday items like magazine cuttings, postcards, and photographs.
  • Using your inspirational picture explore the colours that a present and record them in your sketchbook
  • Encourage experimentation with mixing and matching colors to create a color palette inspired by their chosen piece.

Week 2 - Exploring Shapes, Patterns, and Forms

Materials - sketchbook from last week, art materials, pencils and pens

  • Build on the previous week's learning by focusing on shapes, patterns, and forms within the chosen inspiration.
  • Discuss the significance of shapes and patterns in design.
  • experiment with different ways to represent these shapes and patterns in their sketchbooks.

Week 3 - Developing Designs

Materials - sketchbook from previous weeks, art materials, pencils and pens, fabrics and papers, threads

  • Take the findings from the previous weeks and use them to create a design.
  • expand upon the shapes and colours identified.
  • Explore the effects of adding white, gray, or black to the chosen colours and how it alters the mood and tone of their design.
  • Discuss composition and balance in design.

Week 4 - Creating Stitch Samples

Materials - Sketchbook from previous weeks, fabrics and threads, sewing machine, hand stitching kit. 

  • Transition from design to practical application by focusing on stitching.
  • create samples that reflect the design from week 3.
  • Discuss how stitching can bring the design to life and add texture and dimension.

Use collapsible tabs for more detailed information that will help customers make a purchasing decision.
